Ever walked into a gym class and wished the floor would swallow you up?

The music you can't hear the instructor over. Everyone seeming to know the routine except you. The mirrors. The feeling that you should have got fit first, before you were allowed to turn up.

I've heard it hundreds of times. And I want to be really clear with you… you're not lazy, you're not unfit, and you're not doing it wrong. You were just put in a room that was never built for you.

That's exactly why I built Mindset. Classes where somebody knows your name. Where a coach shows you the movement, watches you do it, and changes it if your knee or your back or your energy says otherwise. Where nobody's looking at you, because they're all getting on with their own session.

Seven years of helping women over 30 has taught me one thing. The hardest part isn't the training. It's making that first decision.

Our Two Classes

We don't run twenty different classes with clever names. We run two things, and we run them properly. Between them you get strength, conditioning and boxing, which is everything a woman over 30 actually needs.

Small Group Training

This is the main programme, and it's where most women start. Small groups of women, coached the whole way through, working on strength and conditioning. Not a class you follow at the back with your fingers crossed… a session someone is actually coaching you through. It's an ongoing membership, because getting strong isn't a fortnight's work. It's a habit you keep.

Fight Klub

Boxing fitness to drum & bass, and we're the only Fight Klub studio in Hampshire. Lights down, music up, gloves on. It's the best stress relief I know, and it's the session women turn up to for a laugh and leave feeling like they could take on anything. Why This Mix Works

Strength builds the muscle you lose as you get older and protects your bones. Conditioning gets your heart and your energy back. Boxing gives you an outlet for everything else. Do all three and your body changes, but so does how you feel walking into a room. That's the part women don't see coming.

What To Expect

What A Session Is Actually Like

You arrive. Someone says hello and knows who you are. There's a warm-up, then a coached block of strength work, then some conditioning to finish. Some days it's dumbbells and squats. Some days it's gloves and pads. It's over in 45 to 60 minutes.

Everything gets adjusted to you. Every single exercise can go up or down, so a woman on her first ever session and a woman who's been with us for years can train side by side in the same room. Nobody's watching you. Nobody's timing you against anyone else.

So who's it for? Women over 30. All levels. Total beginners, absolutely. Women who haven't trained in years, or ever. Women in midlife whose bodies have started doing things nobody warned them about, which is why we also run menopause and midlife training here in Southampton.

You're capable of far more than you think. I say that to every woman who walks in nervous, and I've been right every time.

Your Questions, Answered

Do I need to be fit to join a class?

No. You don't need to be fit before you come. That's what we're here for. Every class is coached, and every exercise can be made easier or harder to suit you, so a total beginner and a woman who's trained for years can work side by side in the same session. There's no minimum fitness level and no judgement. You turn up as you are and we take it from there.

Are the classes women-only?

Yes. Every class at Mindset is women-only, and most of the women training with us are over 30, over 40 and over 50. No men, no twenty-somethings, no mirrors to dread. That's the whole point of the studio, and it's the reason women tell me they finally feel comfortable enough to actually train.

How long are the classes?

Classes run for 45 to 60 minutes, including the warm-up and the cool-down. That's long enough to do proper work and short enough to fit around a job, the school run and real life. We run sessions from early morning to evening Monday to Friday, plus Saturday mornings.
